We are now recruiting a research scientist specialized in cell and molecular biology to the Bioscience department, Metabolism section, at AstraZeneca R&D Mölndal. This position is lab based and offers an opportunity to be part of a team focused on preclinical research within the CV/GI metabolism area. The assignment is for one year starting as soon as possible.

We are looking for a research scientist with a M. Sc. or Ph. D. in a relevant scientific discipline and solid experience of cell and molecular biology. The scientist should plan, perform, analyze and report data from in vitro experimental studies to assess the potency of drug compounds, to validate target concepts and/or to understand mechanism of action of small or large molecule candidate drugs.

The following skills are highly desirable:
* General knowledge in developing, validating and executing in vitro assays.
* Highly experienced in cell culture (cell lines, primary cells)
* Experience of fat biology and culturing of primary adipocytes is advantageous.
* Molecular Biology (nucleic acid extraction and detection, quantitative PCR, cloning)
* Protein chemistry (analytical, immunological & preparative methods)
* Preferably experience in transfection techniques, e.g. siRNA and/or virus transfection
* Preferably an understanding of metabolic disease area pathophysiology and pharmacology

Excellent computing, data handling and documentation skills are required. It is essential to have good social and communication skills and to be a strong team player. Candidates should be able to work independently, take own initiatives and have a positive, goal oriented and problem solving attitude. Excellent English, both spoken and in writing, is essential The personal characteristics will be emphasized in the selection of the right candidate.
