AstraZeneca is a major international healthcare business engaged in the research, development, manufacture and marketing of prescription pharmaceuticals and the supply of healthcare services. But we're more than one of the world's leading pharmaceutical companies. At AstraZeneca, we're proud to have a unique workplace culture that inspires innovation and collaboration. Here, employees are empowered to express diverse perspectives - and are made to feel valued, energized and rewarded for their ideas and creativity.
Description of Opportunity:
We have an exciting opportunity for a post doc position within the Cardiovascular Innovative Medicine Unit of AstraZeneca to explore the "niche" of the precursor cells in human white adipose tissue that are competent for differentiating into brown-like adipocytes. One of the main aims of this project is to dissect pathways leading to the brown adipocyte cell fate determination using high content imaging technique. You will utilize surface marker staining of isolated adipose particulates, coupled with in vitro culture under adipogenic condition to assess the phenotype of the cells. The defined cell surface markers can then also be used to sort these precursor cells from a mixed population of cells.
During the time working at AstraZeneca, you will also have the opportunity to work with Dr. Patrick Seale at University of Pennsylvania, one of the leading scientists in the brown adipocyte field. In addition, you will also be able to work with excellent AstraZeneca scientists across many other disciplines and have access to state of art technology platform in our facility.
Minimum experience:
A PhD in one or more of the following areas:
Extensive background in (stem) cell biology including isolation, fractionation and culturing of tissue derived cells
Skills in cell and molecular biology such as RNA and protein analysis techniques, overexpression/knock down experiments
Broad understanding of substrate metabolism and related assays as well as of the hallmarks of obesity and T2D
Experience with Immunocytochemistry, Image analysis and flowcytometry is an advantage
