We are now recruiting a senior research scientist specialized in cell based assay development to Astrazeneca R&D Mölndal. This position offers an opportunity to be part of a team focused on assay development enabling screening of compound series using automated and semi-automated methods. The position is lab based and requires solid expertise, both theoretical and practical, in cell based assay design and development. Starting date is as soon as possible.

The position is placed at the Bioreagents & Assay Development department in Mölndal, Sweden that is a part of the Discovery Sciences organization in AstraZeneca. The Bioreagents & Assay Development department is responsible for generating cells and proteins for assays, screening and protein structure determination, as well as developing assays for Screening. This is done in partnership with project teams to provide information on protein-ligand interactions and also drive the exploitation of structural information in drug discovery projects.

We are looking for a senior research scientist with a Ph. D. in a relevant scientific discipline or equivalent work experience.

The following skills are highly desirable:
* Expertise in cell-based assay design, preferentially including assays on primary cells, stem cells and/or more complex cell culturing systems
* Theoretical understanding of assay design relevant to the pharmacology
* Practical understanding of assay optimisation, including statistical tools such as factorial experimental design, to enable generation of robust, reproducible and sensitive assays
* Thorough understanding of cell based assay technology platforms and ability to troubleshoot
* Knowledge of detection technologies, including spectroscopic (e.g. absorbance, fluorescence modalities), luminescent and label-free detection
* Understanding of data analysis and conversion of screening data to biological parameters

Experience of assay development and and automated compound screening procedures within the pharmaceutical industry are advantageous. Excellent computing and data handling skills are required for data analyses. As the work is customer orientated in a global environment excellent English, both spoken and in writing, is essential. It is also essential to have good social and communication skills and to be a strong team player. Candidates should be able to work independently, take own initiatives and have a positive, goal oriented and problem solving attitude. Personality is of great importance.
